ST. DOMINIC SCHOOL UNIFORM GUIDELINES
ITEM EXPECTATION
PANTS & SHORTS (All) Capris & SKORTS (Girls)
  • Solid Navy blue or khaki uniform shorts
  • Cotton/cotton blend fabric - no denim
  • Pants must fit at natural waist; no low rise or low waisted styles
  • No pockets sewn on outside of pants, no visible logos
  • No skinny, slim fit, or form fitting styles
  • Must be hemmed and in good repair with no holes or rip
  • If bottoms have belt loops, a belt must be worn (exceptions made for K & 1st if needed - please do not remove belt loops)
LENGTH Shorts/Skorts (4th Grade – 8th Grade)
  • Inseam on shorts not less than 7 inches long - OR -
  • Hemline may not be over 3” above top of knee
LENGTH Shorts/Skorts (K-3)
  • Inseam on shorts not less than 5 inches long - OR -
  • Hemline may not be over 3” above top of knee
Plaid Skirt Option for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Girls Plaid #62 Uniform GAT Skirt from Shaheen’s in Louisville, KY. Skirt must be worn with black or navy blue compression shorts underneath.
SHIRTS
  • Solid colors - white, light blue, or navy blue - no visible logos
  • Shirts must be tucked in so that waist is visible
  • Polo (dri-fit or cotton blend); Oxford shirt and blouses (cotton blend) with collar
  • Turtleneck shirts & t-shirts - solid white only; may be worn under uniform shirt
JUMPERS/Polo Dresses (K-3 only)
  • Solid Navy blue or khaki
  • Cotton/cotton blend fabric or knit like polo shirts
  • Hemline may not be over 3” above top of knee
SWEATHIRTS & SWEATERS Hoodies are being phased out to be in line with other Catholic schools throughout the Archdiocese of Louisville
  • Solid navy blue, royal blue, gray, or white
  • Crew neck sweat shirts, v-neck sweater (plain or button-front)
  • Plain OR official SDS logo or approved Athletics logo
  • Uniform shirt must be worn with all the above
  • Hoodies may not be worn on Fridays or any day we celebrate Mass and should not be worn Tuesday through Thursday by students in grades 4th through 8th. Over the past two years, new hoodies have only been offered as warm-ups for basketball and should be worn for that purpose not to school as they are not dress code approved - old hoodies sold as spiritwear may be worn until they have been phased out on spirit day Mondays.
SHOES
  • Athletic shoes are recommended for daily wear and MUST be worn for PE class - Crocs and Hey Dudes ARE NOT athletic shoes and should not be worn for PE or as a rule on the gym floor period
  • Closed toed and heeled; no back straps; socks must be worn
  • No sandals, clogs, slide-ons or Crocs
  • Shoes must be tied so they can't slip off
  • Clean boots may be worn beneath pants or with a jumper and tights in cold weather but are never allowed on the gym floor for PE or recess
SOCKS
  • Solid color - navy blue, black, or white (Must be worn)
  • Small (no more the 3” X 3”) logo that is navy, black, or white
LEGGINGS & TIGHTS
  • Solid color - navy blue, black, or white; no visible logos; may be worn year round under jumper or skort
HAIR
  • Hair must be neat, clean, and out of eyes and face
  • No distracting hair styles or unnatural hair colors
  • Boys’ hair must not touch eyebrows or shirt collar
JEWELRY
  • A single pair of non-dangling earrings is permitted for girls only
  • One small necklace. Necklaces must be religious medals or cross
  • No bracelets may be worn including ponytail holders, scrunchies, etc
  • Watches are permitted. No Smart Watches, Apple Watches, Fitbits, etc
MAKEUP / NAIL POLISH
  • Simple/light foundation (8th gr. girls only) and non-tinted Chapstick or lipbalm is allowed;
  • No eye make-up or lipstick or lip gloss
  • No nail polish or artificial nails; fingernails must be clean and neatly clipped
OTHER
  • Yoga or compression pants are not permitted
  • No tattoos; no body piercings; no hats inside building; no sunglasses inside building

ST. DOMINIC SCHOOL GUIDELINES FOR OUT-OF-UNIFORM DAYS

SPIRIT DAYS

  • Spirit Days will take place on the 4th Monday of each month - unless otherwise notified by the office.
  • Instead of their regular uniform shirt, students may wear a St. Dominic “Spirit” shirt (official SDS logo or approved Athletics logo).
  • Students may wear uniform pants/skorts/shorts with their choice of spirit shirt. There is no cost to wear a spirit shirt with uniform pants/skorts/shorts - BELT IS REQUIRED.
  • Students may pay $1.00 to wear non-uniform pants, jeans, shorts/skorts, warm-up suits, etc. Shorts/skorts may be worn August-October only. - BELT IS NOT REQUIRED.
  • LEGGINGS AND YOGA/COMPRESSION PANTS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN GRADES 4TH -8TH
  • Clothing may not have holes or rips. Belts are worn if pants have belt loops. Shirts do not have to be tucked in.

DRESS DOWN DAYS

  • Dress Down Days may be held for the whole school, an individual, or a group of students for a specified reason. Every Wednesday is designated as a dressdown day unless otherwise decided by the office. If students earn a dress down pass, it must be used on a Wednesday - unless the pass states otherwise.
  • Dress Down Rules: No belt is required; Shorts/skorts may be worn but regular uniform expectations apply regarding length.
  • LEGGINGS AND YOGA/COMPRESSION PANTS ARE NOT PERMITTED IN GRADES 4-8.
  • Clothing may not have holes or rips.
  • Shirts do not have to be tucked in. Shirts may not be more than 2 inches below the collarbone. No bare midriffs, backs, or shoulders allowed. Shirts must have sleeves. No shirts are allowed that contain inappropriate or suggestive language that promotes alcohol, tobacco, bars, etc.
  • No open-toed sandals or flip-flops are allowed. If dress-down day occurs on P.E. day, appropriate shoes are required for P.E. class.
  • Jewelry and make-up expectations still apply on dress-down days.

Shorts and Capris may be worn year-round. If the temperature is above freezing (32 degrees), recess may be held outside for 15 minutes. Students will also be expected to walk to church and/or be outside during drills or school evacuations, even when temperatures are sub-freezing.
